New Media Age 21 August 2003: Interview with Carsten Boers from Flytxt

What did you do before? I was a consultant at the Monitor Company, advising on telecoms, logistics and pharmaceutical projects.

What's your day-to-day role? I spend a lot of time with clients on our big pitches and spend quality time with the team.

What's the best thing about you? I have a frequent and inappropriate sense of humour. Being German I should get extra points.

What was the last film you saw? Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.

Which book are you reading? I'm reading several by the author Chomsky.

What makes you laugh? A mobile coupon joke. What do you call a mobile coupon coming into a pub? A bar code.

How do you relax? I play sports.

Greates extravagance: My living room is like a mini gym.

What keeps you awake at night? My neighbours are burgled every couple of months, so the sound of breaking windows and their alarm.

Most memorable experience in new media: Texting a Christmas message to 20,000 Smash Hits readers from an Egyptian Inernet cafe in December 2000 (I was on holiday). It was an amazing feeling of new media power.

Favourite piece of old media: A book called The Glass Bead Game by Herman Hesse

Where and what do you drink? Wherever there is Apple juice.

What would be your dream brand to work on?
All our existing clients.

Where will you be in five years from now? In a warmer place.
