Sales Promotion, June 2003 - Medway Ports has launched an SMS service informing people of the lifting times of the Isle of Sheppey's bridge.
Flytxt is providing the technology behind the service, which aims to help locals avoid long traffic queues at peak times by telling them when the bridge - the only route on and off the island - is lifting. The service, which will run as a six-month trial, will be charged at a premium of 25p to offset setup and messaging costs. Users text in the word 'bridge' to a special number to register and will then receive a bounce back message offering an information service choice of week-ends, weekdays or both. When the bridge is due to lift, a warning message is sent out to the phones of subsribers to alert them.
