Chrysalis unit looks to future mobile technology
Sunday, 04 April 2004

Media Week, 23rd March 2004 - Chrysalis is launching its own mobile division – designed to deliver music and, eventually, other media content such as video clips to people via phones and other portable devices.

The company, with interests in radio and publishing, hopes to capitalise on the growing popularity of ringtone downloads and, eventually, deliver more sophisticated media clips as mobile device technology advances.

The new unit will be headed by managing director Ian James (former head of Chrysalis’ interactive division) and business development director Nick Gregg, founder of mobile marketing consultancy MarketClusters.

James said: “Ringtones are merely the beginning of what mobile will become – it’s the beginning of mobile as an entertainment and media channel.

“Video clips will be something that we develop as third-generation [video] phones become a mass market technology.”

Chrysalis Mobile will sit between music publishers or media owners and consumers, and it is understood that the company is working with technology provider Flytxt on the new project.
