Trotman devises SMS service for clearing period
Thursday, 28 July 2005

Precision Marketing - Educational publisher Trotman Information Services is launching an SMS service to update students on clearing places during the post A-level results period.

Mobile marketing service provider Flytxt is handling the drive, which will kick off in mid-August.

A database of opt-in prospects from The Guardian's education website will be contacted. Trotman will provide the data.

To sign up, students must enter their name, email address, mobile number and three preferred courses and institutions. If no matches are found, a message will be sent suggesting they search for other options.

Pamir Gelenbe, co-founder and director of corporate business development at Flytxt, says: "This is a good example of how mobile can be invaluable when speed is of the utmost importance."
