Virgin Mobile keep fans in pocket with free loyalty kebap
Wednesday, 21 June 2006
New Media Age - Virgin Mobile, working with Flytxt and ActiveMedia Technology, reward England fans travelling to Germany with a free post match kebab as part of a customer loyalty campaign.
Fans on the Virgin Mobile network staying at the England World Cup fans’ campsite in Achern, Germany, will be able to munch on a free post-match kebab courtesy of Virgin Mobile.

They will be invited to text the word ‘kebab’ to 26666 to receive a mobile voucher entitling them to the free meat-packed pitta meal from Virgin's mobile Kebab Emporium.

Advertising around the campsite will promote the campaign and the Virgin Mobile ‘kebab emporium’ will stay in Germany for as long as the England remains in the tournament.

Steve Rogan, head of sponsorship, Virgin Mobile said, “We want England fans to be match fit and ready to give our boys all the support they can muster. The post match kebab has become a ritual in towns up and down the country so offering fans a taste of home while they are on foreign soil might help.”

Ramesh Kumar, business development director, ActiveMedia Technology added: “Virgin Mobile recognises that mobile incentives are a fun and cost effective way of rewarding loyal customers and a great way to raise brand profile amongst a targeted demographic. The kebab emporium has become a regular fixture at high profile events over the last three years helping Virgin underpin its reputation as a youth lifestyle brand. We are hoping it will prove a good talisman for England in Germany!”

Adhish Kulkarni, VP client services commented: “Virgin’s mobile couponing campaign is fun, creative and appealing to customers, it offers them both convenience and a valuable reward, while for Virgin Mobile gain a valuable insight into consumers’ behaviour and priceless brand kudos.”

Flytxt will provide the delivery and mobile marketing technology to power the campaign while ActiveMedia Technology’s mobile voucher and redemption software will be used in conjunction with its RAPOS (redemption at point of sale) terminals to print, validate and capture data from the vouchers.

The Virgin Mobile kebab emporium, upon return from The World Cup, will be at various outdoor events and gigs across the UK throughout the summer.

The England supporters’ campsite in South West Germany near Baden Baden, the national team’s base for the duration of the world cup, includes 5,000 camping spaces, a maxi screen to show all matches, an Oktoberfest style beer tent, coaches to take fans to the big games and entertainment from top UK DJs.
