Alton Towers goes mobile for summer 2 for 1 promotion
Tuesday, 21 June 2005

The Tussaud’s Group today announced that it has chosen Flytxt, the mobile marketing services provider, to provide a series of M-Ticket promotions this summer for its premier theme park, Alton Towers.  The initiative aims to increase footfall and is based on the new ride for 2005, ‘Rita ‘ Queen of Speed’, which has already topped the Alton Tower’s guest survey as the best ride ever.

Six radio stations will support the promotion across the UK including Galaxy 102.2 and Century 106.  Consumers will be encouraged to text into a shortcode to receive an M-Ticket and then turn up at the theme park with their mobile and ticket number to claim their 2 for 1 offer.  The consumer is able to redeem their ticket within 24 hours of receipt and will also receive a reminder message as the weekend approaches to prompt them to go the park.  If they happen to lose their ticket number a function to retrieve that vital code via text is available.  The mechanic features an opt-in for database build opportunities.

The M-Ticket code was produced by Flytxt to be compatible with the Alton Towers ticketing system rather than having to use stand-alone multi-media kiosks at the attraction. This results in a far more streamlined process for both the consumer and the park.

The Tussaud’s Group’s decision to run the M-Ticket promotions for Alton Towers follows a successful trial, run by Flytxt, in May this year for similar activity for Alton Towers.  15% of the total entries to the promotion went on to redeem their tickets resulting in an increased footfall of 1,000.  This pilot ran for 3 weeks and was supported by radio station BRMB.

Mike Lorimer, Marketing Manager for Alton Towers said: “The trial promotion with Flytxt and BRMB was extremely successful.  Using the skill and knowledge base of the Flytxt team we were able to run a promotional mechanic which was simple, personal, great value and most importantly tout proof.  We were delighted by these results and consequently will be running similar campaigns.’’

Pamir Gelenbe, co-founder and Director of Corporate Development, Flytxt: “We’re thrilled to be working with The Tussaud’s Group. This mobile ticket mechanic offers the consumer both convenience and a valuable reward, and provides Alton Towers with a seamless integration with its existing system ensuring a fast turnaround process of data.”
