Flytxt gives Sport Relief a taste of technology for Sport Relief's Go The Extra Mile campaign. For the first time ever, Sport Relief's supporters can
use their mobile phones to request a registration pack with Flytxt, the
leading mobile technology provider. Flytxt, who has been awarded a two-year contract with
Sport Relief '04 to build on the success of Sport Relief '02 and Red
Nose Day 2003, is urging prospective participants of the Fitness First
Sport Relief Mile, taking place in 14 venues throughout the country, to
text away.
Carsten Boers, CEO of Flytxt commented, "We're extremely proud to be involved in a campaign which is not only incredibly groundbreaking for mobile but also helping to generate significant funds. We are delighted to continue working on fresh and innovative campaigns with Comic Relief - proof of the role of mobile in the advance of charitable fundraising."
Participants just send the word 'kit' to a short code in order to receive their registration pack to take part in a Mile. Flytxt will also be working with Comic Relief to encourage Milers and keep them enthused through on-going reminders and motivating mobile messages to help them prepare for their Mile.
Flytxt will also be enabling the public to choose the winner via an SMS vote when Sid Owen and Ben Fogle take part in a celebrity boxing match, to be aired on the night of July 10th. They are also providing the official ring tone for the Sport Relief Single - 'Some Girls' by Rachel Stevens - which will be available through www.sportrelief.com.
Amanda Horton-Mastin, New Media and Development Director of Comic Relief commented, "We are delighted with the fantastic public response to our previous mobile campaigns which have raised significant funds for Comic Relief. Flytxt has helped us develop cutting-edge fundraising initiatives such as requesting registration information, competitions and signing up to keep in touch. These initiatives will encourage more people to donate and become involved in Sport Relief '04: they raise awareness, increase participation with the campaign and bring in substantial income. This confirms mobile marketing's position at the head of the new media push for Sport Relief '04."
If supporters can't take part in the Miles themselves, they'll be able to send messages of support to, and potentially sponsor, celebrity participants via their mobiles too.
To register for the Fitness First Sport Relief Mile, go online at www.sportrelief.com or by phone on 08712 44 44 11 (calls cost 10p/min).
